Thousands raised for SSAFA at IRONMAN Wales 2023
05 September 2023
Three Ironmen hailing from Wales have succeeded in raising thousands of pounds for SSAFA, at Sunday’s challenging contest.
Conditions were perfect with the best sunshine of the summer coming in early autumn for the 2023 IRONMAN Wales, which was held in and around Tenby, Pembrokeshire and in front of countless spectators wishing all competitors on.
The three SSAFA fundraisers were:
- Rob Huish is on the second of three IRONMAN challenges for SSAFA. He took part in July’s Swansea event and will compete in the Barcelona IRONMAN in October. Rob has nearly reached his target, and with a little more support, should be able to exceed it.
- WO2 Mathew Hartt of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards. Mathew, of Narberth and with 21 years in the Army, has beaten his target of £1,000 and is on track to hit £1,100.
- Last but not least is fellow Narberth resident Calum O'Connell, who smashed his £1,000 target and has also topped £1,100.
Mathew and Calum not only both live in Narberth, but are also neighbours, and as Callum notes: “Mathew’s wife suggested taking part for SSAFA to my wife and after reading about the charity, and I was keen to help raise money to help you guys continue the great work you do for veterans, serving personnel, and their families.”
