SSAFA earns Silver Award in military employment scheme

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, is proud to have earned a prestigious Silver Award in the Government’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) 2023.

The ERS is designed primarily to recognise private sector support although public sector organisations such as the emergency services, local authorities, NHS trusts and executive agencies are also eligible to be recognised.

The award recognises the commitment and support SSAFA demonstrates towards the Armed Forces communities and its dedication to being a forces friendly employer.

Simon Blum, SSAFA Chief Operating Officer said: “We are delighted with this award. As a military charity, SSAFA strives to ensure equality and fairness, especially within the Forces community."

Silver award holders must have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and proactively demonstrate that service personnel and the armed forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruiting and selection processes. They must actively ensure that their workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues and must not have been the subject of any negative PR or media activity. Within the context of Reserves the employer must have demonstrated support for mobilisation or have a framework to support mobilisations in place.
