Introduction

SSAFA is dedicated to ensure that the principles and duties of safeguarding children, young people, and adults at risk are applied throughout the organisation. All employees and volunteers coming into contact with children and adults at risk have a responsibility to protect them and to provide a safe environment.

What do we mean by Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means protecting health, wellbeing and human rights; enabling people to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. It is an integral part of providing high-quality care. Safeguarding children, young people and adults is a collective responsibility that applies to everybody.

How do we help?

We can offer advice about what to do if you have concerns about an adult or a child
We have Safeguarding Professionals who have had additional training and specific responsibilities within SSAFA
We work with our partner agencies to provide high quality Safeguarding Training within Command
By recognising emerging problems and arranging help and support at the earliest opportunity
Working with other agencies to provide holistic and consistent care to support families, individuals and the community
Ensuring that our staff have the knowledge, skills and expertise to manage complex, sensitive situations
Having easily accessible policies, procedures and guidance to support our staff
Requiring staff to access safeguarding supervision
Coordinating Public Health Campaigns directed by Public Health England priorities and local need
Supporting families throughout their parenting journey
By providing accessible care to all members of the community

If you’re worried about a child or an adult at risk, it’s important not to wait until you’re certain.

Trust your judgement and act on your concerns: talk to someone that you trust e.g. practitioners working with children, a health care professional, a teacher, a social worker, a police officer and ask for help to report your concerns.

How we work

All staff within the SSAFA Community Health Care Team undertake regular Safeguarding Training as directed by UK professional guidance and organisational requirements.

Regular Safeguarding Supervision is a requirement within SSAFA to ensure that safeguarding issues are recognised and that appropriate help and support is offered to protect both children and adults
