The role of the Community Children's Nurse
Community Children's Nurses (CCNs) support all children who have acute and short-term medical and behavioural conditions and some longer-term medical and behavioural conditions.
CCNs are UK trained and qualified children’s nurses who are registered with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council.

We empower and enable children and young people and their families to be confident and competent in managing their health needs. We do this by providing support, advice and advocacy for families whose children are experiencing the following needs/conditions:
- Supporting families whose children are admitted to hospital
- Preparation for planned surgery
- Bed-wetting
- Constipation
- Diabetes
- Asthma inhaler technique
- Eczema
- Allergies and use of auto-injectors
- Epilepsy
- Febrile convulsions
- Behavioural difficulties
- Additional needs and chronic conditions
How we work
To provide an integrated, skilled and competent CCN service that works effectively with other health professionals within British Forces Cyprus, Republic of Cyprus and the UK.
To ensure care is up to date, evidence-based and tailored to the meet individual needs of the child and young person and their families.
We work collaboratively with a range of professionals to support the needs of children and their families, including:
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
- School Nurses
- Health Visitors
- Community Midwives
- Speech and Language Therapists
- GPs
- Community Paediatricians

How you can access the service
We operate by referral from your local medical centre. When a child is referred to our CCN service, an assessment of need is completed and a care plan put in place, with the CCN acting as the ‘Named Nurse’ and taking a lead role in co-ordinating the care for the child.
