Charles Ness joined the Royal Air Force while studying at Liverpool University and completed a permanent commission as an Engineer Officer. During that time he served in a number of operational appointments, predominantly on fast-jet squadrons, and filled a variety of staff and policy roles in procurement, strategy and IS appointments.
On retiring from the Service, Charles joined Fujitsu Defence and National Security as the Company's senior defence advisor, helping to provide the MOD, armed forces and security agencies with secure network and IT solutions. He also became the executive director of a small management consultancy specialising in business transformation, with a focus on cultural and behavioural change. At the same time he keeps his hand in as an engineer by undertaking specialist technical tasks, usually associated with high-hazard industries.
Formerly a Trustee and Council member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Charles also chaired that organisation's professional standards board for 3 years. Charles joined the SSAFA Council as a Trustee in March 2018, and has since become the deputy Chair of the SSAFA@140 Programme Board.
