Alex Walmsley has over 25 years’ experience in the defence and nuclear sectors in both the United Kingdom and United States of America. She is the Director of Ashbourne Strategic Consulting Ltd, a boutique defence and security consultancy, and UK Managing Director of GEL Laboratories, the USA’s largest independent radiochemistry laboratory. Alex is also an Adviser to Newton Europe, the operational improvement consultancy, to defence PR agency CMS Strategic and to FIPRA, the global public affairs consultancy.
Alex was appointed an Associate Fellow of RUSI in 2006. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2012. She has written numerous articles, policy papers and a book on Lithuanian history.
At St Andrews University, while completing her PhD in Lithuanian history, Alex lectured on history and politics.
Alex is Chair of the SSAFA Carol Concert Committee, which stages the annual carol concert for London Central Branch, and is also a SSAFA Corporate Ambassador. In 2007 she survived the SSAFA Sky Dive!
In her spare time she plays the cello (enthusiastically if not proficiently), enjoys fishing in Scotland and tries to train a lively beagle.
